Even a handful of nitrogen atoms among millions can transform the soul of a diamond. When nitrogen subtly replaces carbon within the crystal lattice, the result is a spectrum that ranges from yellow to fiery orange.

The distinction lies not in mere presence, but in arrangement. A precise alignment of nitrogen atoms allows the stone to filter light in such a way that only a captivating orange radiance is revealed.

Further contributing are color centers — minute vacancies within the diamond's lattice that trap electrons. These interact with light to intensify the hue, creating the rare depth and vibrancy that defines every Tangerine Diamond™.

The Standard

What Qualifies as a
Tangerine Diamond™

Only a select few diamonds are worthy of bearing this name. Each must satisfy a rigorous set of criteria that no compromise can override.

Orange Color Component

The stone must display a pure, unmistakable orange hue or a clearly discernible orangy modifier — spanning Fancy Orange, Fancy Orangy Yellow, Fancy Orangy Brown, and all grades in between that carry the orange signature.

Luminous Clarity

Clarity is paramount. Inclusions that disrupt the stone's luminous return of light are not tolerated. Only diamonds that allow light to travel freely and radiate with full brilliance ascend to this distinction.

Purity of Tone

The color must be vivid and resolved. Stones that read as muddy, overly brown, or insufficiently saturated are excluded. The orange quality must be immediately apparent and unmistakable to the trained eye.

Excluded from the designation: Diamonds whose color leans too brown without an orange contribution, stones with milky or clouded clarity, and any diamonds with hues too muted or grey-toned to convey the fiery radiance that defines the Tangerine Diamond™ standard.
